What is your impression about a branded vehicle you see on the street? What if that vehicle is showing unsafe driving patterns? What if most of the vehicles of this brand show the same driving patterns? What if you constantly read on the news that a vehicle of specific company has been involved in an accident? All of these aspects can leave a negative impact on the overall brand image of the company and thus we as fleet managers should be doing our best not to ruin the effort of our marketing teams.
There are many ways a company can use its brand to make its fleet safer. One way is by creating a brand identity that is associated with safety. This can be done through marketing and advertising campaigns that highlight the company's commitment to safety. Another way is by using the company's name and logo on safety-related products and services. This can help to remind drivers of the importance of safety and make them more likely to take precautions when operating a company vehicle.
In an effort to improve safety and efficiency, many companies are implementing responsive driving initiatives for their branded fleets. These initiatives can include things like driver training and marketing elements like a phone number printed on the vehicle with instructions for other drivers to report unsafe driving. By encouraging responsible driving habits, these companies hope to improve the overall safety of their fleet and the public.
Another important aspect of the brand image is how your drivers treat your vehicles. If the vehicles are not properly maintained, washed regularly, the drivers might treat the vehicles irresponsibly. However in case the vehicles are well maintained, are regularly cleaned, this gives the drivers an impression that they should be caring for the vehicles they are driving as well.
Finally it might be a good idea to search for local safe driving initiatives like yearly contests or awards. Usually these awards or contests ask you a ton of questions on whether you do specific safety-related things in your fleet or company in general. Having this external audit and recommendations for improvements is a good todo list for a fleet manager.
I've been working in the fleet management sector for several years now and I've seen various fleets from different angles - very well managed fleets, where processes are in order, policies are in place and fleets where you can barely understand what does the fleet consist of. I decided to lay out these experiences in an easy to read site, where I will look into all of these aspects of fleet management and how technologies can help in fleet management. You can consider this as my attempt and life goal of writing a book. It will take a while, but be sure to check back often.
