Welcome Fleet Safety e-book!

This is an attempt to structure my experience in fleet management sector and apply it to a small fleet manager area of interest. I've been working for the past 10 years in the field of fleet management sector and I must admit that no fleet management software is capable to cover all of the aspects of fleet management. There will always be some areas not covered. This website is an attempt to close the gap.

What are some aspects the companies should consider when thinking about fleet safety?

There are a number of aspects inside a company that should be considered in terms of fleet safety. These include:

The company's safety policies and procedures
these should be reviewed on a regular basis and updated as necessary to reflect changes in the company's fleet or operations.
The training and development of staff
all staff should be properly trained in the use of the company's fleet and its safety procedures.
The maintenance of the fleet
the fleet should be regularly serviced and maintained to ensure that it is in good working order.
The use of technology
the company should make use of technology to help improve fleet safety, such as GPS tracking systems and dashcams.
The management of driver risk
the company should have a system in place for managing driver risk, such as a points system for traffic violations.

Why do I focus on small fleets? Because for bigger fleets the requirements and processes might be totally different.

What is a small fleet?

Normally any fleet under 20 or 50 vehicles is considered a small one. Most fleets of this size are managed without any specific procedures or systems in place and thus there are certain risks associated with the fleets. The accidents occur very rarely and in case they do, they are considered as one-off cases. There could be years without accidents and then several accidents over a short period of time.

About

I've been working in the fleet management sector for several years now and I've seen various fleets from different angles - very well managed fleets, where processes are in order, policies are in place and fleets where you can barely understand what does the fleet consist of. I decided to lay out these experiences in an easy to read site, where I will look into all of these aspects of fleet management and how technologies can help in fleet management. You can consider this as my attempt and life goal of writing a book. It will take a while, but be sure to check back often.
